Placas Esmaltadas
Luís Filipe is a second-generation enamel artisan dedicated to preserving the traditional craft of vitreous enamel signage in Portugal. Continuing the legacy established by his father, Manuel Tato, Luís produces handcrafted enamel plates using the same time-honoured techniques that have defined Portuguese enamelwork for decades.
The family’s original workshop, founded by Manuel Tato, became known for manufacturing durable enamel signs, vehicle plates, and industrial markings, kiln-fired at high temperatures to create a permanent glass-bonded finish. Luís Filipe carries this heritage forward, combining traditional hand-pressed steel forms, multiple enamel applications, and high-temperature firing to achieve the deep gloss and exceptional longevity characteristic of authentic enamel plates.
Each piece is made individually through a multi-stage process, ensuring accuracy, durability, and authenticity. Today, Luís Filipe’s enamel plates are valued by collectors, classic car enthusiasts, hospitality venues, and homeowners seeking genuine European craftsmanship rooted in family tradition.
