Founded in 1977 by Ângelo Marçal, Portela Coffee began as a small, humble coffee house, welcoming customers with a single coffee machine and a few clay cups. Returning from Angola, Ângelo brought his passion for coffee to Lisbon, serving each cup with care and allowing patrons to take their favorite blends home.

Over the years, Portela expanded its offerings beyond coffee to include pastries, chocolates, teas, light meals, and a range of coffee accessories, while opening new locations throughout the Lisbon region. The name "Portela," meaning "small door," reflects the brand’s invitation to step inside and experience the rich aromas and flavours of expertly roasted coffee.

Today, Portela Coffee remains a cornerstone of Portuguese coffee culture, combining its long-standing tradition of specialty coffee roasting with innovative blends, origins, and brewing methods.
